Full stands, loud bands, and great action on the field marked the renewal of one of Warren County’s great sports traditions — the annual River City Rivalry football game between Warren Central and Vicksburg High.

Warren Central won 21-13 on Friday, for its 13th consecutive victory in the series. Aden Greer rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, Eric Collins had 98 yards and a TD, and the Vikings’ ferocious defense held Vicksburg to 59 total yards.

Mincer Minor returned an interception 60 yards for a TD for Vicksburg (0-7, 0-2 MHSAA Region 2-6A), and Thomas McKnight caught a touchdown pass. Nash Morgan also threw a touchdown pass to Jaylon Winters for Warren Central (4-3, 2-0).

This was the fourth consecutive meeting between the teams that was decided by eight points or less.

The result was only part of the game, however. Fans started filtering into the stadium nearly two hours before kickoff. Both bands entertained the crowd at halftime, and the newest members of the Vicksburg Warren School District Athletic Hall of Fame — Michael Carter, Dale Erves, Larry Erves, Reginald Harris, Mark Smith and Emma Lee Wilson — were also honored.

It was a great night in the community and another memorable edition of a long-running football rivalry series.
