Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said law enforcement is on the scene where the high-speed chase of a stolen vehicle came to an end on Highway 61 South and Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies have been joined by several other agencies in the ongoing hunt for the suspect.

Pace said the suspect is young, Black male last seen wearing a black, or dark colored, jacket and green shorts.

“Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) got behind a dark blue Mustang northbound on Highway 27 and tried to stop it for a traffic violation,” Pace said. “The vehicle has no tag on it. It failed to stop for the trooper.”

Pace said the chase continued west on Interstate 20 and south on Highway 61 before turning onto Glass Road at the Vicksburg city limits, where the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

“We’ve been down here since about 6:45,” Pace said. “The trooper lost him on foot. I’ve got multiple sheriff’s department units down here, including our K-9. We’ve got the Vicksburg Police Department K-9 and MHP K-9 here. We’ve got a perimeter set up and have units in the woods now.”

Pace said he wanted to make residents in the area aware of the situation and stress the importance of citizens not only staying aware of suspicious behavior, but also of not taking any unnecessary risks.

“They need to make sure their vehicles are secured. No vehicles left outside with the keys in them. And should somebody approach them asking for a ride, or food or water, please call 911.”

Pace also said residents should not try to aid in the search, due to the unknown danger, as well as the presence of K-9 units from three different law enforcement agencies.

“We just want everybody to be safe,” he said. “The suspect is going to be wanted for failing to yield and possession of stolen property. We have no information at this time about whether he is armed or not, but he just wants to get out of here, so don’t leave keys in your vehicle and, should someone knock on your door asking for food, water or a ride, please call 911.”

This is a developing story.
