A second shooting that occurred on the scene of a homicide in Tallulah led to the arrest of a local man Thursday.
According to information from Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office (MPSO), as deputies were investigating the scene at Wyche Apartments, located at 218 Thomas St., where one person was killed by gunfire, additional shots were fired, striking one person in the leg.
“Madison Parish CID conducted an investigation into the second shooting and learned that Marvin Ballet (23, of Tallulah) was the suspected shooter,” MPSO said in a statement.
Ballet was taken into custody and charged with attempted second-degree murder; aggravated assault upon a peace officer; and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
As of Monday, MPSO had not yet released the identities of either the deceased or the injured party resulting from the two shootings.
Thursday’s shootings are the latest in a number of deadly incidents involving gunfire in Tallulah over the past several months. MPSO officials said Monday they believe several of the shootings to be related, while still others are thought to have been isolated incidents.
“We are doing everything we possibly can to stop all these shootings,” Madison Parish Sheriff Chad Ezell said. “We have made multiple arrests in various incidents and we will keep arresting anyone that is involved in these senseless acts.”
Ballet was booked into the Madison Parish Jail on $400,000 bond.
