Dr. H.W. Penn headed Peria Grotto. • McCabe and Thigpen were named attorneys for the local credit bureau. • W.R. Lominick was reappointed county agent by the Board of Supervisors.
90 YEARS AGO: 1934
Mrs. T.B. Grafton spoke before the Yowoca Club. • Wilma Sowers was visiting Winnsboro, Louisiana.
80 YEARS AGO: 1944
Lt. Ralph Jacobs with the U.S. Navy Air Force was in Vicksburg visiting relatives. • The Carr Central Greenies lost to Clarksdale by a final score of 40-14.
70 YEARS AGO: 1954
Services were held for Mrs. H.C. Gray. • Lucy Armstrong was visiting Oxford. • Ernestine Ferrell, supervisor of public school music, presented the Carr Central Girls Sextet at the meeting of the Lions Club.
60 YEARS AGO: 1964
Audie Murphy starred in “Bullet for a Badman” at the Joy Theater. • Dovie Moore died.
50 YEARS AGO: 1974
Mrs. Edward R. Partridge won the grand prize, a luxury cruise for two, in First National Bank of Vicksburg’s 90th anniversary celebration.
40 YEARS AGO: 1984
A thunderstorm left extensive damage, including power outages, a fallen tree on Walnut Hills restaurant, and a large oak tree down in the back yard of Herbert White on Enchanted Drive.
30 YEARS AGO: 1994
Park View Regional Medical Center, The Street Clinic and Family Medicine Clinic announced a merger to become Park View Medical Crop., while retaining their individual names and locations.
20 YEARS AGO: 2004
More than 3,000 students from around Mississippi were in Vicksburg when 26 marching bands visited for the Mississippi Marching Band Competition at Vicksburg High School.
10 YEARS AGO: 2014
Vicksburg police and firefighters responded to the scene of an 18-wheeler on fire in the westbound lane of Interstate 20 between U.S. 61 North and Clay Street.
