WC’s Lindsay, Bates get All-State honors at 6A cross country meet

Two Warren Central cross country runners earned their place among the best in Mississippi.
Freshman Cora Lindsay finished 12th and junior Will Bates 14th in the girls and boys divisions, respectively and earned All-State honors at the MHSAA Class 6A Championship Saturday.
Lindsay had a time of 23 minutes, 9 seconds for the 5-kilometer race on the Choctaw Trails course in Clinton.
Saltillo’s Kennedy Neal won the Class 6A girls championship with a time of 21:17. Saltillo also won the team title with 38 points. Center Hill finished second, with 62, and Warren Central was seventh out of 10 scored teams with 159 points.
Warren Central’s Abigail DeJesus was 26th, with a time of 25:16; Yashira Narvaiz finished 36th in 26:14; Kaylan Ellison was 44th in 27:40; and Cara Beth Hearn was 53rd in 28:47.
Eighth-graders Ava Henry and Elizabeth Winters placed 58th and 59th, respectively.
In the boys’ 5K race, Bates crossed the finish line in 18:20 to secure his All-State spot that goes to the top 16 finishers in each classification.
Olive Branch sophomore Preston Mundy won the individual Class 6A championship in 16:32, and Neshoba Central had four of the top nine runners to win the team title with 42 points.
Warren Central finished eighth out of 14 teams, with 224 points.
After Bates, Jameson Streif finished 39th for the Vikings in 20:22; Bailey Dickerson was 47th in 21:13; Aiden Dickerson was 54th in 21:51; and Austin Hood (78th), Jayden Dennis (81st) and Robert Whitlow (98th) rounded out their lineup.
Vicksburg High’s Casey Brown finished in 43rd place, with a time of 20:56.
