Mayor J.J. Hayes was visiting Brunswick Levee and inspecting the work being done there. • T.W. McCoy was in New Orleans attending a director meeting of the Illinois Central Railroad.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stein celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. • Leonard Nelson gave a vocational talk to the Y’s Men’s Club. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1944

Mrs. James Reed was called to Michigan by the illness of her sister. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1954

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koestler announced the birth of their son, Charles III.

60 YEARS AGO: 1964

St. Aloysius shocked Magee 10-0 and the Greenies defeated Clarksdale 21-7. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1974

Two Westinghouse employees, Gerald C. Taylor and William H. Krisker, retired after each completing 43 years of service. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1984

The grandson and namesake of Vicksburg’s Civil War defender, John C. Pemberton, died at his home in Manhattan at the age of 92. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1994

Pat Simrall won the right to continue serving as tax collector. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2004

Kelly Worthy stepped down as E-911 Commission chairman following three days of closed meetings.
