Girls basketball roundup: Missy Gators, St. Al win season openers

Big nights from Cynia Johnson and Zion Harvey got Vicksburg High’s girls basketball team off and running in the 2024-25 season.

Johnson scored 19 points and Harvey had 18 as the Missy Gators beat South Pike 50-37 in their season opener Tuesday. The duo combined to score 11 of the team’s 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Ny’Keria Watson added seven points for Vicksburg. Tykeria Coleman led South Pike with 17 points.

The Missy Gators will play again Thursday at 6 p.m., when they go to Jackson to face Lanier.

St. Al 45, MSD 28
Megan Theriot and Taryn Lusby both scored in double figures, with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as St. Aloysius beat the Mississippi School for the Deaf in its girls basketball season opener.

Annslee Averett and Farrell Roberson added seven points each for St. Al, and Olivia Larson scored six.

St. Al will be back in action Thursday at 6 p.m. against Delta Streets.

Germantown 60, Warren Central 24
Charlie Gamberine made four 3-pointers and poured in 21 points to lead Germantown to an easy season-opening victory over Warren Central.

Ayla Benson added 20 points for Germantown, and Julia Glasgow scored all 10 of her points in the first half when the Lady Mavericks built a 39-15 lead.

Sophomore Camara Evans led Warren Central with 13 points, with 11 of those coming in the first half. Arrionna Jenkns scored four points.

Warren Central will play at Jefferson County Thursday at 6 p.m.
