BRANDON — Warren Central gave up the lead in the final seconds of the first half against Brandon, then let the game get away in the second half.
Brandon’s Braylon Barnes scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the second half, when the Bulldogs pulled away to beat Warren Central 62-51 in a boys basketball game Thursday.
Two free throws in the final seconds of the first half put Brandon ahead 30-28. Then it started the third quarter with a 12-2 run to take a double-digit lead.
Barnes opened the fourth quarter hot as well, with a 3-pointer and three free throws to put the Bulldogs ahead 56-40 with 6:51 left.
Warren Central rallied with a 7-0 burst before committing turnovers on four consecutive possessions, and did not recover. The Vikings only made one field goal, a rebound basket by D.J. Gibbs, in the last five minutes.
Gibbs led Warren Central (0-4) with 16 points and Robert Williams scored 13. Braelyn Bailey had 18 for Brandon.
Warren Central will play again Nov. 21, at home vs. Jim Hill.
Vicksburg 41, Forest Hill 40
Freshman guard JaQuez Jones scored 13 points to lead Vicksburg High (2-3) past Forest Hill.
Javeion Perkins added 11 points for the Gators and Jadarius Henderson scored eight.
Vicksburg snapped a three-game losing streak. It will play again Tuesday, at home against Florence, with the girls-boys varsity doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.
Junior High
St. Aloysius 32, Riverfield 17
Dru Gleese scored a game-high 14 points, and Adam Dorbeck had seven points and six rebounds as St. Aloysius’ junior high team defeated Riverfield. Evan Sadler grabbed 10 rebounds and Patrick Southerland had six for the Flashes.
The varsity boys’ game was canceled because Riverfield is still alive in the MAIS football playoffs and did not have enough players for the basketball game.
