With the holiday season in full swing, The Salvation Army of Vicksburg is calling on community members to step forward and volunteer, emphasizing that it is the dedicated volunteers who make a difference in the lives of those in need.

“Volunteers are the army behind The Army,” stated Maj. Janna Torgerson of The Salvation Army. “Without their support, we couldn’t carry out our mission to serve our community during this critical time of year.”

The Salvation Army’s holiday programs rely heavily on volunteers to help serve meals, distribute toys to children, and ring bells for the iconic Red Kettle Campaign. This past year, the organization served more than 800 families through various programs and services.

“Whether you’re serving a meal, helping at our Angel Tree distribution events, or ringing a bell, your time and compassion can bring hope and joy to those who need it most,” Torgerson added. “Every hand makes a difference, and every act of kindness counts.”

The Salvation Army invites individuals, families, and groups to join this “critical work” by signing up to volunteer. Opportunities include:

• Food Pantry: Help collect and sort food pantry items for those in need during the holiday.
• Toy Distribution: Help collect and distribute toys and clothing to area children or seniors in the community.
• Bell Ringing: Join us at local retail locations to ring bells and collect donations for the Red Kettle Campaign.
