Basketball Roundup: Missy Gators blow away Gulf Breeze; Tri-County sweeps St. Al

The Vicksburg Missy Gators blew out the Breeze.
Zion Harvey totaled 21 points, nine steals and six assists, and Cynia Johnson had a double-double as the Missy Gators beat Gulf Breeze (Florida) 62-26 Tuesday at the Innisfree Hotels Beach Basketball Tournament on the Florida Gulf Coast.
Vicksburg held Gulf Breeze scoreless in the first quarter, then outscored the Dolphins 25-10 in the third to turn it into a blowout.
Vicksburg shot 46.8 percent (22-for-47) from the field and had 22 steals as a team.
Johnson finished with 17 points, 13 rebounds and five steals for the Missy Gators (7-2). Ny’Keria Watson added nine points, and Kenley Henderson scored six.
After their Thanksgiving week trip to Florida, Vicksburg will have the rest of the week off before going back on the road to play Yazoo City on Dec. 3.
Tri-County 46, St. Aloysius 22
Taryn Lusby scored 10 points, but the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes did not get a whole lot more in a loss to Tri-County on Tuesday.
Annslee Averett scored seven points for St. Al (3-5), and Farrell Roberson had eight rebounds. Megan Theriot finished with four points, seven rebounds and four assists.
St. Al will play three road games next week — Dec. 2 at Prairie View Academy, Dec. 5 at Humphreys Academy, and Dec. 6 at Tallulah Academy. All varsity games begin at 6 p.m., and junior high games at 4.
Boys
Gulf Breeze 50, Vicksburg 47
Vicksburg High’s boys basketball team went 0-for-2 at the Innisfree Hotels Beach Basketball Tournament, after losing a close game to tournament host Gulf Breeze (Florida).
The Gators (5-5) rallied from a 12-point deficit at the end of the first quarter but couldn’t quite get past the Dolphins in the second half.
Hutson Rowe scored 12 of his 18 points in the first quarter to lead Gulf Breeze (5-0).
Kris Washington and Brycen Jones led Vicksburg with 10 points each, Ja’Quez Marshall scored eight, and Jadarius Henderson and Ja’Quez Jones scored six each.
Marshall, Ja’Quez Jones and Brycen Jones made the all-tournament team.
Vicksburg lost both of its games at the tournament in Florida, after winning its previous four.
Tri-County 71, St. Aloysius 59
Carson Gleese had his third 20-point game in a row, but Tri-County overpowered St. Aloysius (6-3) in the boys’ half of Tuesday’s varsity basketball doubleheader in Flora.
Gleese finished with 26 points and eight rebounds, and Anthony McCloud had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead St. Al’s effort.
Carter Henderson had seven rebounds, and Sadler Lambiotte had four assists.
In Tuesday’s junior high boys game, Tri-County beat St. Al 46-22. Evan Mallard had 12 points and six rebounds for the Flashes, and Dru Gleese scored seven points.
