Mrs. T.B. Cottrell was convalescing after an attack of grippe. • Dr. J.S. Ewing returned from New York, where he did special work at Bellvue Hospital.

Bettie Love Baker was married to Herbert Strickland. • Mrs. Sal Marx left to visit her parents in Greenville.

80 YEARS AGO: 1944

Sam Price was elected president of the Chamber of Commerce. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1954

Dr. Ben Lawton, president of the Baptist Theological Seminary in Turin, Italy, was the guest speaker at First Baptist Church.  

60 YEARS AGO: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dudley announced the birth of a son, Charles Jr., on Nov. 21. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1974

Mr. and Mrs. John F. Donovan were the parents of a daughter, Devona Hope, born Nov. 25.

40 YEARS AGO: 1984

The Christmas Parade was a real blast for kids of all ages. • Services were held for Mrs. Anna B. Taylor of Utica. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1994

T&J Utility Co. Inc. announced its intention to cease service to its customers as of Dec. 13, leaving residents of Lake Forest and part of Openwood Plantation in a quandary for sewer service. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2004

Members of the Company B, 106th Engineers Association had just concluded its 64th anniversary celebration. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2014

Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State in the annual Egg Bowl by a final score of 31-17.
