A couple of easy outings was exactly the palate cleanser Vicksburg High’s girls soccer team needed to wash away the bad taste of a few losses.
Trinity McGloster scored five goals, and Kennedy Mullins and Amari Johnson had one each as the Missy Gators mauled Morton 7-0 on Tuesday.
Vicksburg had its second lopsided win in as many days, after beating Riverside 11-1 on Monday. The two victories followed a three-game losing streak in which the Missy Gators scored a total of three goals.
“It’s good to get back into it, but it’s not to get complacent. It’s working our way back up to those district games further down the line,” Mullins said.
The games against Riverside and Morton provided a quick break from the MHSAA Region 2-6A schedule. Vicksburg (8-4) lost two region games last week, and has three more before a two-week break for the holidays.
Vicksburg hosts Columbus on Friday and Warren Central on Dec. 17, then goes on the road to Neshoba Central on Dec. 20 to wrap up the 2024 portion of its schedule.
“Every game is important. You always want to put your best into it. But these games are important to keep us in there in the district running and reassert ourselves in the rankings,” Mullins said.
Warren Central 3, Ridgeland 0
Allie Mason had a goal and an assist, and keeper Hayleigh Simmons made seven saves to earn her sixth shutout of the season as Warren Central (11-3, 3-0 MHSAA Region 2-6A) beat Ridgeland (4-6, 1-1) for its third win in a row.
Brooke Steed and Mary Clell Allred also had goals for Warren Central.
The Lady Vikes will play at Vicksburg on Dec. 17, and then at home vs. Columbus on Dec. 20 to finish the first half of their schedule.
Boys
Vicksburg 2, Morton 2
Vicksburg had a goal in the final minute erased by an offsides call and had to settle for a tie against Morton in a boys soccer game Tuesday.
Gideon Thompson scored on a penalty kick and Dacian Brown also scored for the Gators (1-8-2).
Warren Central 3, Ridgeland 1
Luke Bond had a goal and two assists to lead Warren Central’s boys soccer team past Ridgeland (4-6, 1-1 Region 2-6A) on Tuesday.
Bond scored off an assist from Duke Esparza in the seventh minute, then returned the favor on a goal by Esparza in the 11th to give Warren Central an early 2-0 lead it never relinquished.
Daniel Wescott scored in the 72nd minute, off an assist from Bond, to put the Vikings ahead 3-1 and seal the win.
Warren Central (11-1, 3-0) won its fourth game in a row and remained in first place in Region 2-6A.
