A new Miss Vicksburg was crowned Saturday at the Parkside Playhouse Theatre.
Morgan Nelson, a pre-med student at Mississippi State University, will go on to compete for the state title.
“I am beyond excited for this opportunity to represent my hometown at Miss Mississippi this year,” Nelson said. “I am ready to get started with all of the work that I have prepared.”
This will be Nelson’s second time to represent the River City in the Miss Mississippi Competition and her third time vying for the crown.
Last year, Nelson represented Mississippi State University in the competition and was named second alternate to Miss Mississippi during the state competition.
Nelson is the daughter of Omar and Melanie Nelson and is a graduate of Warren Central High School.
The Miss Mississippi Competition will be held in Vicksburg June 11 through 14 at the Vicksburg Convention Center and more than 30 contestants will be competing for the title.
