Wilbur F. Nations Sr.

A graveside service for Wilbur F. Nations Sr., age 102, of Vicksburg, Mississippi will be held at Cane Ridge Cemetery in Lorman, Mississippi with the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Ross, Johnny Ross, Terry Sweeney, Wayne Holmes, Hulon Matherne, Hunter Townsend and Dakota Townsend.

Wilbur was born April 18, 1922, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, the son of Emell and Mattie Cutrer Nations. In October 1942, Wilbur enlisted in the military serving in the Navy CB’s during World War II. He was stationed in French New Caladonia, Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands, Guam, Marshall Islands, and Siapan. He was discharged in October 1945. He was employed by Republic Oil Company, Mississippi State Highway Dept., Waterways Experiment Station, and International Paper Company. While working 37 years with IP, he worked in Moss Point, Mississippi, Mobile, Aalabama, Bastrop, Louisiana, Vicksburg, Mississippi, Springhill, Louisiana, Philippine Islands and Georgetown, South Carolina. He was a Mason Scottish Rite and Shriner. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Bruin and attending the Neshoba County Fair for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of Linwood Hunting Camp. He was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church since 2003.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Warene Wilson Nations; his parents, Emell and Mattie Nations; brother, Woodrow Nations; brother, E. G. Nations; sister, Helen Wilson; sister, Deloise Ross; daughter, Sherry Lowery; granddaughter, Teasha Lowery; and grandson, Mike Lowery.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Wilson; son, Wilbur F. Nations Jr.; granddaughter Dr. Kelly Nations; granddaughter, Janna Nations Fletcher; great-granddaughter, Allyson Gillespie; great-grandson, Hunter Townsend; great-grandson, Dakota Townsend; great-granddaughter, Brittany Brewer; and great-great-granddaughters, Adalynn Gillespie, Aurora Gillespie, Alexa Gillespie and Isabella Townsend. He is also survived by his best friend, Jake.
