Former LSU football player Kyren Lacy was arrested Sunday on several charges stemming from a fatal traffic accident in December.
Lacy turned himself in and was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex Sunday evening, on the charges of hit-and-run driving with serious injury or death, reckless operation with accident, and negligent homicide. The negligent homicide and hit-and-run charges are felonies.
Bond was set at $151,000 total for all three charges. Lacy, 24, posted the bond and was released about two hours after he was booked.
Louisiana State Police announced Friday that Lacy was wanted on the charges and that they were in communication with his lawyers about turning himself in. Lacy was reportedly out of the state when the arrest warrant was issued.
The charges stem from a Dec. 17 traffic accident near Lacy’s hometown of Thibodaux, in which one person was killed and two others were injured.
The LSP’s arrest warrant said Lacy allegedly “recklessly passed passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed” in his 2023 Dodge Charger and crossed lanes in a no-passing zone on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish in South Louisiana.
According to LSP, as Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge.
Traveling behind the pickup was a 2017 Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the on coming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.
Following the wreck, Lacy drove around the crash scene and fled south on LA 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash.
Herman Hall, a 78-year-old former Marine who was a passenger in the Kia Sorrento, later died from injuries suffered in the wreck.
The LSP said its investigation revealed Lacy was driving the Dodge Charger.
Lacy played wide receiver for three seasons at LSU and two more at Louisiana-Lafayette. He caught 58 passes for 866 yards and a team-high nine touchdowns this season.
Lacy declared for the NFL draft two days after the hit-and-run and did not play for LSU in the Texas Bowl against Baylor on New Year’s Eve.
