Attorney and U.S. Army veteran Ty Pinkins today officially announced his candidacy for the United States Senate. Speaking from his campaign office in downtown Vicksburg, Pinkins outlined his vision for a more prosperous, equitable, and united Mississippi, emphasizing the need for targeted investments in rural infrastructure, continuing the expansion of high-speed internet access and improving local healthcare facilities. He is challenging Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in the 2026 mid-term election, offering voters what he describes as “a fresh new perspective and a clear alternative for representation in Washington.”
“I’m running for the U.S. Senate because I believe in Mississippians and the power of our people to shape the future,” Pinkins said. “It’s time we come together and chart a new course—one that ensures opportunity, prosperity, and security for every Mississippian.”
Pinkins’ public service spans nearly three decades, beginning with his distinguished 21-year career in the United States Army, where he served three combat tours—spending over thirty-six months in combat—and earned the Bronze Star for his actions. His military career culminated in service at the White House under both Republican and Democratic Presidents. Upon retiring from the military, he co-founded The Pyramid Project, a nonprofit organization serving youth from low-income communities. As a public interest lawyer, he advocated on behalf of individuals in some of Mississippi’s most underserved communities, including fighting for families facing unfair evictions and helping win millions of dollars in damages for Mississippi workers who were cheated out of their hard-earned pay.
Among Pinkins’ top priorities are:
- Expanding economic opportunity by attracting new industries, supporting small businesses, and driving investments throughout Mississippi to create well-paying jobs and strengthen families across the state.
- Making healthcare affordable and accessible by prioritizing cost-effective measures that reduce out-of-pocket expenses and improve access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural communities.
- Strengthening education by investing in public schools, community colleges, and vocational training programs to ensure Mississippians are prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
“Mississippians deserve a senator who understands their challenges firsthand and will fight for them in Washington,” said Pinkins. “From struggling to access affordable healthcare in rural areas to rebuilding communities after natural disasters, I know the obstacles our people face, and I am committed to addressing them head-on. I’ve served in uniform to protect our nation, and now I want to continue serving—this time, by proudly representing Mississippians in the U.S. Senate. The most important thing a leader must do is listen. And this is the big thing that is missing in Washington today. That’s why our campaign motto is ‘You Talk, I Listen. We Do!’ It’s about you sharing what matters most to you and your family, me listening and acting on those priorities, and all of us working together to move Mississippi forward.”
