The Vicksburg Missy Gators avenged a loss and earned a prize for their trouble.
Cynia Johnson had her second double-double in three games, with 21 points and 15 rebounds, as Vicksburg beat Ridgeland 63-41 on Tuesday to lock up the No. 3 seed in next week’s MHSAA Region 2-6A girls’ basketball tournament.
Zion Harvey added 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Missy Gators (15-10, 5-4 Region 2-6A) as they won for the third time in four games. They lost 65-41 to Ridgeland earlier this season.
Jordan Grace made three 3-pointers to finish with nine points, and Carjessa Albert chipped in five rebounds and three steals. The Missy Gators outscored Ridgeland 37-15 over the middle two quarters to take control of the game.
Vicksburg will finish the regular season Saturday at home against Callaway at 6 p.m. Callaway is the No. 1 seed for the region tournament at Neshoba Central, but Vicksburg will be on the opposite side of the bracket as the No. 3 seed. Vicksburg will play Warren Central in the first round, and then the winner of that game will face No. 2 seed Neshoba Central.
Ridgeland (10-14, 4-6) is the No. 4 seed and will play Columbus (5-13, 2-6) in the first round.
